PRESENCE
(DAY 1 of 7) Ariel Gonzalez
"One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord." — Psalm 27:4–6 NIV
Think
David’s main focus is: "One thing I ask... this only do I seek." He doesn't ask for power, success, or even safety from his enemies. His deepest desire is simply to be with God. Spending time with the Lord is the most vital part of our lives. David wanted to dwell.. not just visit. He longed for continual communion with God, to gaze on His beauty, and to seek Him above all else. Why? Because David knows that God's presence is the safest, most peaceful place he could ever be.
In our world, we often turn to therapists, social media, or temporary escapes. But in verse 4, David shows us a different desire: “One thing I ask… to dwell in the house of the Lord all my life.” He knew that what we really need most isn’t distraction or control.. it’s God’s presence. God's presence is not just a place of peace, it's also a place of protection and exaltation. Verse 5 tells us that “in the day of trouble,” God hides us, shelters us, and sets us on a rock.
The same presence that fills us with wonder also becomes our defense and strength. And what is our response to such nearness? A life poured out in love to the One who draws us close. Always remember this: God still hides us in His presence when life gets loud. That’s better than any scroll, podcast, or therapy session.

Act
What’s the “one thing” you’re seeking most right now? Today, slow down and ask God to bring you back to the one thing: His presence. Let Him realign your heart where it's been distracted or divided. Whether you're overwhelmed, busy, or just going through the motions..
Make space for God again today. That might look like turning off your phone for 10 minutes, putting on worship music, journaling a prayer, or reading a Psalm out loud. However simple it is, let it be sincere.
-He’s not far. He’s not frustrated with you. He’s just waiting to be the one thing again-

Pray
Lord, above all things, I long for you. Let my heart return again and again to that one desire: to dwell in your presence all the days of my life. Quiet the noise in my soul, quiet the noise of this world so I can gaze on your beauty. Hide me in your shelter, lift me above fear and distraction, and fill me with your joy.
May Your presence be my home.
May my heart be your dwelling place.
Amen.
May Your presence be my home.
May my heart be your dwelling place.
Amen.
Worship
Spend some time worshiping the Lord.
