PRESENCE
(DAY 4 of 7) Mel Frith
The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.” Then Moses said, “If You don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. How will anyone know that You look favorably on me—on me and on Your people—if You don’t go with us? For Your presence among us sets Your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.” – Exodus 33:14–16 NLT
Think
I love that word “personally.” It captures the very heart of who God is—close, intentional, and deeply involved in our lives. In this passage, Moses makes one thing clear: he doesn’t want to move without God’s presence. Not just God’s presence over the group, but His personal presence with him.
Moses understood that success, safety, or even reaching the Promised Land meant nothing if God wasn’t with him. What truly set the people of God apart wasn’t their destination or their blessings—it was who went with them.
It’s so easy to get caught up in chasing goals, relationships, or even spiritual achievements and forget that what matters most is simply being with Him. God’s presence brings peace when everything else feels uncertain. It brings rest to hearts that are weary and anxious.
Moses refused to go anywhere without God—and we shouldn’t either. When we slow down, breathe, and make room for Him through prayer, worship, or stillness, we begin to sense that same confidence Moses had. God’s presence isn’t distant; it’s personal. It’s His personal presence that brings true refreshment to the soul.

Act
Maybe today you feel weary or anxious. Maybe you’ve had a busy start to the year and you’re already feeling your soul start to be restless. But maybe, hear me out, it’s because you haven’t invited God’s personal presence to be with you. So, take a breath (or a few if you need to!) and invite God’s presence in. Don’t rush it—sit quietly and ask Him to go before you, beside you, and within you. Maybe play a worship song or read this passage again slowly. Let His peace settle over you and remind you that He is right there with you in every meeting, classroom, or conversation. Let His personal presence be your rest today.
Pray
Father, thank you that your presence goes with me wherever I go, no matter what. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to move ahead without you. Teach me to pause, listen, and rest in your presence. I don’t want to take a single step unless you go with me. Let your peace guide me and your Spirit fill me today. Amen.
Pray
Spend time worshiping the Lord
