PEACE

(DAY 6 of 7) Candace Heine
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23:1–4 NIV

Think

Peace isn't about avoiding problems or never feeling anxious. True peace comes from the presence of the Shepherd. David paints this picture of God: providing rest, guiding us on the right path, and walking with us even through the dark valleys. His presence is what gives us confidence and a sense of calm.
We all walk through dark valleys, moments of uncertainty or fear. But whatever the challenge, Psalm 23 reminds us that God doesn't leave us to figure it out on our own. He's with us every step of the way.
The green pastures and still waters aren't about having a perfect life, zero stress, or checking out from responsibilities; it's about finding real peace. When we lean into God instead of trying to control everything, we stop chasing validation from likes, paychecks, or what everyone else has. Our worth comes from Him—not from our accomplishments or Instagram feeds. When we actually rest in His presence, the anxiety starts to fade, and His peace takes over in a way nothing else can.
In the New Testament, Jesus echoes this truth in Luke 12. He teaches that much of our anxiety grows from chasing "more," more possessions, more control, more of what cannot satisfy. But He assures us that the Father knows our needs and calls us to seek His kingdom first.
Our worth is not tied to what we own but to who owns us. The green pastures and still waters are not found in possessions, but in the presence of the Shepherd. When our hearts rest in Him, anxious striving fades and peace takes its place.

Act

Take a few quiet minutes today to read Psalm 23 slowly and meditate on its words. As you do, picture the Shepherd leading you beside still waters. Ask yourself: Where am I striving for "more" instead of resting in Him? Release those worries into His hands and remind yourself: "The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing."

Pray

Lord, thank you for being my Shepherd. Lead me into your peace. Quiet my anxious thoughts. Teach me to trust your presence more than I trust possessions, and to rest in the truth that you are with me in every season. In Jesus' name, Amen.
