POWER

(DAY 1 of 7) Reagan Sims
“I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:5-7 NLT

Think

It is a wonderful thing to watch a child grow up and step into the strength of adulthood. Where once were tiny hands that could barely grasp or hold, now in their place are hands that can create, love, build, and protect. The potential was always there… ready and waiting inside. But maturity took that potential and made it into a reality.
Paul, speaking to Timothy, wants something similar for His friend. He tells the young man, “I know the faith that you have… God has put something wonderful inside you. Don’t leave it there. Fan the spark into a flame.”
As a follower of Jesus, you have that same spark. Something is already alive and growing inside you. As a believer, you have been given a genuine faith… something so powerful that Jesus himself says if we would have just the smallest amount, we will command mountains to leap into the sea. And Paul promises that when that gift comes alive, it drives out fear and uncertainty, leaving in its place the love and power that sets the people of God apart from the rest of human history.

Act

In Luke 11:13, Jesus tells us to ask God. He promises that if we do, God will respond. Have you ever truly asked God for more of Himself?  Have you ever decided that you won’t stop asking for more until God moves? Because if you take that one small step, the promise is that when the Holy Spirit comes, He will awaken something in you so powerful that the gates of hell cannot overcome it.
Gone will be fear. Gone will be timidity. Gone will be uncertainty. And in their places will be a power guided by love that will change you and this world forever.
But will you ask? Will you truly look to God and ask him to awaken the faith in you, to empower your hands with supernatural love? Right now, let’s start asking him together.

Pray

Father, I know you have placed power inside of me. But I no longer want it just inside me. I want to see it lived out in every part of my life. Would you awaken that spark in me? Feed my faith, Lord Jesus. I want to move in Your power. Please Father, give me more of your Spirit. Drive the fear and uncertainty out of my life. Don’t leave me the same. I love you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
